“Thank you so much for such a wonderful day – I’ve just done my first Story Massage with a group of teenage learners. They loved it! One came right down from being heightened to being completely calm. It was like magic!” SEND Teacher.
“It has been a wonderful way of connecting with my mother who has dementia. We have had fun sharing massage stories about her past or even just some simple nursery rhymes. It calms her, and I leave her feeling safe and loved.” Aly Townley
“What an amazing training day! It is very rare to find an activity, which can engage all learners no matter what their special needs, age or disabilities. It offers flexibility to develop your own stories and make it unique to your setting.” Lisa Lawrence, Sensory Co-ordinator.
Facilitator: Mary Atkinson is an experienced massage therapists with a wealth of experience in using positive touch activities in the home, school and wider community. Mary lives and practices in Chichester. She worked at St Wilfrid’s Hospice as a complementary therapist for 14 years.
Course content: Ten simple massage strokes form the basis of our Story Massage Training and book. You will learn these strokes and then we will work together to adapt familiar stories or even create some massage stories of your own to use in the home, school, or as part of your work. This will help build your confidence with using the Story Massage Programme in the way that most suits you. During the day there will be opportunities to ask questions and share ideas with others. It is fun and interactive, just like the Story Massage Programme.
Practicalities: You do not need to bring anything except a pen and paper.
“Don’t know what I did before I used it. Very effective and the children in my clasess prefer it to any other intervention. I love making the stories to suit the needs of the child or the theme and adore delivering it. Thank you both for this wonderful resource.” Karen Horner, Autism Specialist Teacher.
