Who can attend a Story Massage training course?
Everyone! Our training courses (both face to face and online) are open to everyone with an interest in positive touch activities for children and adults including teachers in mainstream and special schools, physiotherapists, play therapists, relaxation coaches, care workers, therapists, baby massage instructors, parents and grandparents.
Do I get a certificate?
The course is designed for Continuing Professional and Personal Development (CPD) as an extension of current skills, work and experience. All participants will be issued with a certificate for their own personal or professional use.
The wording on the certificate will depend on your prior qualifications and experience – and where you are planning to use Story Massage. We now have such a wonderful variety of people using Story Massage in many different kinds of settings. This is why we are always happy to answer your specific questions. Everyone situation is so different!
Our three certificates are:
- Certificate of Attendance. This is issued to teachers, care workers, teaching assistants,learning mentors, parents, grandparents and others who do not require specific insurance to use Story Massage in their work or home.
- CPD Certificate. This is issued for therapists wishing to use Story Massage within their current therapy work on a one-to-one basis with children, adults or individual families. Both the face-to-face course and the online course are approved for 5 CPD points by the Federation of Holistic Therapists and 10 CPD points by the Association of Reflexologists. CPD certificates can be changed to Story Massage Instructor if you gain the necessary qualifications within 3 years of taking the Story Massage course. (see below)
- Story Massage Instructor. This is issued for therapists planning to run Story Massage groups such as peer massage sessions in schools or Baby Story Massage groups. In order to receive this certificate you will need to have a qualification that includes a component in sharing massage, reflexology or yoga with groups of children or families. Among the recognised qualifications that fulfil the criteria are:
MISP (Massage in Schools Programme), Impact (Kind Hands) or Relax Kids
Light Touch Reflexology for Babies, Toddlers and Children or Baby Reflex
Infant Massage Instructor or Baby Massage Instructor
Baby Yoga Instructor or ITEC Diploma in Infant and Child Massage
There may be others – so please check with us!
** You can also qualify as a Story Massage Instructor after taking the online course (if you have the required prior qualifications) however, you will need to send us a short video to demonstrate how you are using Story Massage **
Please note: All adults working with children or vulnerable adults require an enhanced DBS certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service) or equivalent. Therapists are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct and Professional Practice of their professional organisation.
