Who can attend our online training course?
Everyone can attend our online course! It is open to everyone with an interest in positive touch activities for children and adults including teachers in mainstream and special schools, physiotherapists, play therapists, Relax Kids coaches, care workers, therapists, baby massage instructors, MISP instructors, parents and grandparents…..
Do I get a certificate?
The course is designed for Continuing Professional and Personal Development (CPD) as an extension of current skills, work and experience. All participants will be issued with a certificate for their own personal or professional use.
The wording on the certificate will depend on your prior qualifications and experience – and where you are planning to use the Story Massage Programme. We now have such a wonderful variety of people using the programme in many different kinds of settings. This is why we are always happy to answer your specific questions. Every situation is so different!
Our two certificates are:
- Certificate of Completion. This is issued to everyone who completes the course including teachers, care workers, teaching assistants, learning mentors, therapists, well-being practitioners, parents, grandparents and therapists. If you wish to gain your own insurance to run group sessions as an independent practitioner then you will also need a Story Massage Instructor certificate.
- Story Massage Instructor. This is issued to independent practitioners and therapists planning to gain insurance to run their Story Massage groups such Baby and Toddler Story Massage classes, family groups, library sessions or well-being hubs. Please note this is not a qualification to train others to use the Story Massage Programme in the workplace. There are only two Story Massage Programme trainers – Mary Atkinson and Sandra Hooper.
How can I get a Story Massage Instructor Certificate?
In order to receive this certificate and logo you will need to have a qualification or experience in working with groups of children, young people and families. The online course does not include any training in working with groups. Some insurance companies will require you to have a recognised qualification such as Relax Kids Coach, Infant Massage Instructor or Baby Yoga Instructor. So please check with your insurance company.
After completing the online course, we charge a small fee of £25 for administration of your Story Massage Instructor Certificate. In addition to the course assessment questions, we ask you to send us a short video for assessment. Here is an example of a video from a student who has now qualified as a Story Massage Instructor.
Certificates of Completion can be changed to Story Massage Instructor if you gain the necessary qualifications or experience within 3 years of completing the Story Massage Programme course.
